Roughly 50 automobiles have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they stated in a official communication.
Police state they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been placed in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered many other smeared automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
These symbols are illegal in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; authorities are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the occurrence," they added.
Municipal representatives announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A high-ranking representative said the attack left him speechless and needed to be resolved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and revives the pain of the extremist attack five years ago," he posted on social media, mentioning the murder of nine victims by a gunman aiming at residents of migrant background in February 2020.
